Ertuğrul Apakan 

Ambassador Ertuğrul Apakan joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey in 1971 and was the Undersecretary of the Ministry from December 2006 to August 2009. During his diplomatic career, he worked at several departments of the Ministry as well as at the Turkish missions in Vienna, Kuwait, the UN Geneva Office. He served as the Ambassador of Turkey in Lefkoşa and the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations. 

Ambassador Apakan was appointed by OSCE as the head of the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in 2014 and finished his tenure as of 1st June 2019. He also served as the coordinator of the Working Groups on Security in the framework of Minsk talks on Ukrainian crisis. Ambassador Apakan graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Science and holds Master’s Degree in Economics from Ege University in İzmir. He is married with two children.
